There’s nothing like the warm glow of the Northern Lights candle. Flickering fire and the soft scent of lavender fills the air on a cold winter evening. Some of us got to experience the unexpected sunset show last month of the actual Northern Lights. But, if you're like me you missed it. (wah, waa)
So, if you want to bring a little aurora into your life, here's how to make a “Northern Light’s” salt candle.
Right now you may be thinking, “What’s this? I thought you make jewelry?”
Well, don’t worry. I’m still making plenty of one-of-a- kind treasures. But shopping with a DIY project thrown in is a fun diversion from the day to day.
One of the stones I love to use in "winter jewelry" is Labradorite. This beautiful gem casts shades of light from deep blue, to green and even purple reminding me of the lights we all love.
Did you know legend has it that a warrior cast his sword into the stone to release the fire, creating the magical Northern Lights? When you see their beautiful colors, it’s not hard to imagine.
Since most of us don’t live where we can experience the actual lights, I decided to make our own. The Northern Light candle project is a fun way to bring a little magic into your home with just a few inexpensive supplies.
Gather Epson salt, food coloring, modge podge & some thrift store jelly jars and you’re in business. The candles are a fun project for a wedding or beach house and would also be a great way to romance up your bedroom on Valentine’s day (bow-chicka-wow-wow).

If you make the candle, I'd love to see it so please share your photo with me (Cheryl@SSMagpie.com). Enjoy the warmth of your own Aurora. xo
