Living with intention...and so it begins

20 or so years ago, I met a wonderful friend who changed my life. Wow…that’s a pretty powerful statement right? This friend taught me how to live with intention and since then, my whole world has been changed for the better. “How” you ask? Well, I’ll tell you….

My friend is one of those people who always seemed to be lucky. Got the great job, had the amazingly beautiful home, is a wonderful person and had this completely cool “plan.” She said “when I’m 50, I’m going to move to St. John and live the rest of my days gardening and doing what I love.” The first time I entered her home, I noticed that she had a picture of a beautiful mountainside overlooking a pristine harbor – blown up to mural size – on her kitchen wall. When I asked her what the picture was about, she said “that’s where I’m going to live.” Ok, so I figured they visited, bought some property, and took a picture of this hillside from the beach below so they’d have an image to dream over for “someday.” Sounds reasonable, right? Except that they didn’t own property there. The land of her “future home” was 98% owned by island families or the government. It takes years or decades to do title searches on the property, if (and this is a big IF) you can even find a piece for sale. But I thought “hey whatever she wants to think is fine with me.” Fast forward 5 years. She and her wonderful hubby went to St. John, every year, looking for property. One day, while out jogging, she kicked a sign, hidden in the brush, face down. It said “For Sale.” Guess what? It was the property exactly in the photograph! It took them almost another 5 years to do the title search but, finally, the property was theirs. Luck? Maybe. Intention? More like it!

Today, they live there in their own slice of paradise. She also owns another piece of land on a neighboring island where she grows lavender and herbs to sell to local restaurants. She gardens, she lives on a hillside with a stunning view of the water, and she’s doing what she loves. All according to plan. This is just one of the many examples of things that she wished for, that just seemed to “magically” happen. But what I learned from my dear friend is that it’s not magic. It’s intention and everyone has the power within them to live this way. All you have to do is decide, believe, and work towards. It’s really just that simple. Learn to live with intention so you can follow your dreams. Until then, Be Blessed.
