Intentional Living- My Journey with Jess

Are you curious about how to bring more intention and deliberate manifesting into your life?  Well, even though I think I have been pretty successful turning the life I dream about into reality, I wondered if there was more that I could be doing.  I recently participated in a 4 week workshop called Flow with Intention with Jess Lively.  Jess has a weekly podcast called ‘The Lively Show’ where she talks all about the Law of Attraction, manifesting your perfect life and other, what some would call “woo woo” topics.  I like Jess’ approach though because she is also very scientific.  Science and spiritual- what???  Is that allowed in today’s culture?  I say YES!  Jess does a ton of research on the science that supports the vibration energy that is manifestation.  After going through her course, i’m happy to say, that you can teach an old dog new tricks!  I learned some cool new techniques that have helped open up a avenue of happiness for me that I didn’t know was missing.  I’m going to share with you how to do the same in your life over the next 4 blog posts.

The first lesson started with two simple exercises.

  1. Document your current morning routine for 3 days
    • Write down what you do each morning in the first 90 minutes and the feelings you notice in yourself during that time, as well.  This doesn’t have to be incredibly detailed or lengthy, simply write down a list of the actions you take and the emotions you observe.
  2. Document your most current emotions for 3 days.
    • Start taking notes (ideally at lunchtime and before bed) listing out the range of emotions that you felt throughout your day. You don’t have to capture every emotion, just the ones that stand out and seem to dominate your reality the most.  See if you can identify and document any specific actions, thoughts, or experiences that may have triggered your feelings.

It’s important to note that this exercise is to be taken at face value for whatever flows onto the paper.  Jess likes to call it a “non-ego judging activity” and challenged us to observe and document with grace rather than fight the emotions that emerged during this exercise.  What does she mean by “ego?” Well, that’s the part of your brain that really likes to throw you a curve ball.  That little voice that will internally criticize you when you challenge yourself to do something you have never done.  For the record, I hate that voice.  It’s a slimy, nasty little black blob of goo that lives in your darkest corner.  It’s that thing that makes you doubt, criticize, judge and fail.  It’s the part of you that will stop you in your tracks….if you let it.  So don’t.

So, here’s what I learned about myself.  I realized that Mon-Friday, I start my day in a rush.  I wake up (to my alarm- yuck!) and my first thought was often “I’m tired.”  Guess what, I was then tired all morning…shocker!  I filled my first 30 minutes of each day going through the motions of yet, another day without even really thinking about what I was doing.  What I realized after 3 days of documenting all this is that much about how I started my day would often show up in the rest of it.  I wasn’t thrilled with what I saw.

The next step?  Rather than start my day with the same routine, the night before, I planned out some small thing that I could do in the morning before I started my day that would start my day off with joy.  Depending on the amount of time I allocated, it was making a piece of jewelry, shipping out an order, brushing my dog, reading a book (i’m currently reading Outlander.  If you’ve seen my Facebook live videos, you know I am obsessed with one red haired, muscled, tall, brave and handsome Scottish guy- YUM- sorry, I digress) or some other small thing that made me happy.  Guess what happened?  My day was suddenly brighter, felt longer and I looked forward to getting up each morning to do my planned fun.  I even woke up before the alarm (it was like being on vacation whoop- whoop!)  I then tested the theory and stopped doing this for a few days.  It was pretty amazing how quickly I fell right back into a state that was less than blissful.  Planned fun…who knew it could be so powerful?

So, you’re probably saying “that’s great Cheryl- what does this have to do with manifesting?”  Well, I’ll tell you.  Manifesting goodness into your life, and living intentionally are 90% mindset/science and 10% magic.  Starting each morning with the right mindset helps you carry that positivity into the rest of your day.  When you are happy and positive, you are more open to dreaming and more likely to believe you can have everything you hope for.  Jess likes to call this “getting into the flow.”  My challenge to you, over the next 7 days is to give it a try.  I’d love for you to comment and let me know how you feel.
